Public Art Museum

HUGH LANE -- David Carrier will deliver a free lecture on "The Public Art Museum" in Dublin's Hugh Lane Gallery at 1900, Thursday, May 20, 2004. Carrier's lecture is one in a series that examines theories about current art practice, curation and the role of the museum in the 21st century.

The lectures in the Hugh Lane provide a locus around which other opportunities for exchange are arranged to benefit artists. Carrier has arranged studio visits and panel discussions with MA Fine Art students from NCAD and with MA students of the Visual Art Practice course run by the Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design & Technology.

Carrier is Champney Family Professor, at Case Western Reserve University and the Cleveland Institute of Art. Trained as a philosopher, he is an eminent art critic and historian. His latest publication is the recent Monograph on Sean Scully. Previous books include

He has published art criticism in ARTFORUM, ARTINTERNATIONAL, the BURLINGTON MAGAZINE, and TEMA CELESTE.

A former Getty Scholar, David Carrier will be a Clark Fellow Fall 2004. Author of many exhibition catalogues, he has lectured extensively in America, China, Europe, and New Zealand.
