Taking notes
AFTER SEEING Katie Holten's exhibition in the Butler Gallery, I thought Microsofties responsible for tablet computing would do well to walk through too. Parts of the Holten exhibition remind me of things I've seen inside Microsoft. There's a hallway at Microsoft filled with photocopies of notes and samples of notes from all over the world. There are notes done linearly, notes using outlines with letters and numbers, notes inside squares and notes on calendars. In similar fashion, Katie Holten writes notes all over the place. Some are on display in the Butler Gallery and they tell a fun story. A sample of her work is at left and Flickr is tagged with other pieces from her studio. I've seen Holten's work in several exhibitions and have asked students from Tipperary Institute to comment below on what they thought about the current exhibition in Kilkenny's Butler Gallery.

KILKENNY -- People around the city of Kilkenny are more likely to drive to shopping destinations in neighbouring Carlow, Clonmel and Waterford than they are to shop locally. It's all down to value for money and availability of parts. I have DIY things to do on weekends, when most hardware shops in the local area close by 1PM on Saturday. Twice in October, I drove to Dublin to get the things I needed. That also meant buying food, petrol and magazines outside of Kilkenny as well. Kilkenny city has lost its prominence as a major retail destination. "There is better value and more choice elsewhere," points out Deputy
