Kilkenny People fails to show

KILKENNY -- Perhaps the reason the Kilkenny People failed to show anything related to video installations during last weekend's Day of Welcomes stems from not being able to identify them. According to the brochures, work from 14 artists were on display. I met three of the artists in the streets and found eight samples of work. Even though I live in Kilkenny, I could not locate several of the venues. The invigilator in one of the venues did not know whose work was on display there. No markings were next to any piece of work although most venues had handouts describing the work in place. One of the exhibits was taken down an hour before the timetabled decreed. I learned some important lessons in curating video installations last weekend and hope future events like this receive better treatment in both curation and post-event publicity.
