Keyhole Review

KEYHOLE -- I just burned away an hour of browsing time searching Keyhole for several of my former Stateside addresses. It not only found the addresses, but it returned satellite images of the aircraft I flew as well. I used the program to fly over Ireland. It found roads and terrain features and named all the towns in Irish. Then I started typing in all the LAT/LONG coordinates that were on "Enemy of the State" because I was watching that program at the same time. The NSA satellites are faster than Keyhole's imagery but I know the NSA won't license that speedy imagery to punters.

Keyhole will be fun to review. There are so many different ways to fly over the earth. Everyone should have a keyhole perspective. I wonder how this high-resolution imagery figures into the Department of Homeland Security's clampdown on planning factors. They could simply impose a restriction on high-end video drivers because you need good local video to harvest the high-quality terrain features and to interpret the shadows that often accompany large buildings viewed from above. For a desktop user, Keyhole from Google is an amazing repository of information. It costs $29 for an annual subscription. It's free on a seven-day trial.
