An Open Note to Michael McDowell
DUBLIN -- We know Michael McDowell's staff will see this "open note" because we know the electronic search tools that cull the internet for mention of things related to the brief of the Irish Minister of Justice. And here's the thrust of this open note: make it easier for Chinese science students to come to Ireland.
In the last decade, nearly three billion people have joined the pool of the global economy and nearly half of them come from China. The sheer number of students who are interested in earning a BSc is increasing and the number applying for stateside study is decreasing because of Homeland Security paranoia. The time is right for Open Days targeted at Chinese students. College syllabi should be translated into Cantonese. Qualified Chinesee students should be fast-tracked onto Irish college campuses and those students should be offered the same work/study opportunities as their colleagues.
