Irish Times on Podcasting
BERNICE HARRISON headlines her weekly "Radio Review" with podcasting but in her first-brush coverage she fails to point readers to either the world's most popular solo podcaster or to Ireland's senior podcaster. Harrison mistakenly equates podcasting to broadcasting and her brief article cites podcasts unlikely to be in any Irish MP3 collection. It's tiring to read journos reporting on journos in a simple, documentary way. There's more to a critique than a rehash.
Chris Vallance covered the Portable Media Expo for RTE'S "World Report" this week, opting to spotlight corporate interest instead of the lively podcasting community that is leading the way towards an audible environment that showcases mash-ups better than anything on Irish radio. Even though iTunes lists traditional radio shows as the world's most popular podcasts, there are other metrics one should consider and other podcast aggregators that provide a balanced view of the kinds of audio content enjoyed by those who love to control their portable music--in mashed-up and podsafe ways. To get this perspective, subscribe to the Daily Source Code where Adam Curry has a more insightful perspective on podcasting than The Irish Times.
