Helpful Accidental Deletions

WHILE LOOKING AROUND at mass storage devices, I thought about my poor physical media archive. There are some things I need to back up in more than one place, including in a physical location separate from a virtual location. And I also thought about the gigabytes of data I have accidentally deleted this week. The deletions worried me for a minute and then I realised that clever searching would return nearly all of them to my desktop. My cluttered digital world needs more accidental deletions.

Lifehacker offers 10 tips that provide a saner approach to pruning back your digital packrat habits.

1. Empty your inbox.

2. Prune your feed subscriptions

3. Clear your desktop.

4. Empty your "junk drawer".

5. Organize Organize "My Documents".

6. Archive non-working files.

7. Uninstall unused programs.

8. Improve filters.

9. Unify your tools.

10. Reduce multiples.
