Use Case for Lifestreaming
WHILE EXPLAINING THE CONCEPT of lifestreaming to a class filled with thoughtful fourth year creative multimedia students, I shared a screenshot of an upcoming trip that we will make to Limerick.
During the ensuing discussion, I pointed out the value of sharing travel, accommodation and event information. This functionality goes way beyond hitching rides in carpools. If you set yourself up on Dopplr and Jaiku, then talk about your requirements, you will be rewarded with helpful tips from friends inside your own social network and from passersby who often give you the inside view on where to maximise the quality of your time.
Take Brendan Lally's trip to Ireland for example. At first glance, it looks as though Brendan will be sending direct mail to loads of people, trying to sync out his schedule. If he had run his itinerary through Dopplr and let Dopplr summarise the information on the sidebar of his blog, I think he would have discovered that people would have committed to meeting him in cities along his route of travel. Things may also work out fine through direct contact but if the machines can do the talking for you, why not spend the time packing your bags since machines cannot do that very well.
For the record, Brendan Lally's wishlist of people he would like to chat up while in Ireland include the following:
Fergus Burns - nooked
Evert Bopp - WiMax
Conor O'Neill - LouderVoice
Joe Drumgoole - PutPlace
David Copithorne - Waveson
