Energy-Saving Grants Together
GRANTS FROM THE IRISH government for up to €2000 per house for energy improvement measures are now available to householders who are prepared to co-operate with their neighbours in applying, writes Stephen Collins in The Irish Times. The grants form part of the cluster housing phase of the Irish government's home energy saving pilot scheme. So if clusters of five or more houses band together and cooperate on the installation of common energy saving measures, there could be some money in the process.
Any group of homes can come together--they don't have to belong to the same estate. So I propose that four of my mates at work submit a proposal to join a cluster. We can all decide to go solar or maybe to increase the efficiency of our boilers. If we are successful, we can get a reduction in our initial home energy assessment, paying only €100 for it. Following the assessment, an advisory report will be prepared for each household identifying measures for which the grant can be used.
