Rewinding to My 2004 Phone

e90 at workIN JANUARY 2004, I started using the Motorola V525. I liked that phone and I really like comparing it to the phone I use today, the Nokia E90 (at right).

  • It weighed 114g. The E90 weighs 210g.
  • It had a clamshell screen to protect its keys. The E90 has a screen that pivots over its keyboard.
  • The V525 showed 176x220 pixels in 65,000 colours. The E90 displays 800x352 in 16 million true colours.
  • I used 5MB of on-board storage with the V525 and I regularly overfill more than 2GB of storage on the E90.
  • Bluetooth on the V525 connected to both my Sony Clié PEG UX-50 and to my Motorola headset. Bluetooth on the E90 powers SonyEricsson earbuds and the BMW Bluetooth kit in our car.
  • POP e-mail worked well on the V525. I can set up multiple e-mail accounts on the E90. Nokia Mail pushes new content to the phone. I never have to check mail. It just comes to my phone.
  • I could set up MP3 ring tones on the V525, just like the E90. And the E90 plays MP3 files, along with AAC from iTunes, 3GP, AMR, WAV, and MP4 files.
