KILKENNY -- Several short courses run in Kilkenny that teach how to get maximum benefit from sustainable building design. As a new home owner, I am interested in this topic. As a staff member at Tipperary Institute, I am delighted to see most of the course materials one click away on our intranet.
- The energy used during the lifetime of a biulding is nearly always more than that which goes into creating the fabric.
- Saving energy is almost always more cost effective than producing or reclaiming it.
- The smaller the heat demand, the easier it is for renewable sources (wind turbine, geothermal heat pump, solar panels) to meet that demand.
- Most energy is wasted at source, not at the point of use.
