Blocking comment spam

TYPEPAD -- My daily burden of blocking spammers from commenting has eased. I listened to Ernie Svenson who is playing "comment bingo" by removing objectionable comments from earlier post. I took Eamon Dalton's advice and am blocking whole subnets from known spampits in Poland, Australia, and Florida. I sanitise some comments, removing words that attract people searching from Google, Yahoo or AltaVista. Doing these things meant losing up to 300 visitors a day without getting an increase in my Google click-through AdSense numbers. But at least my spam burden has declined.
