EURO RIGHTS -- The Electronic Freedom Foundation points to useful resources about EUCD and provides quick-hitting material that helps make the point that the EUCD is bad.
The EUCD was signed into Irish Law without consultation on 22 January 2004.¹ There is a section on the IPRE and softpat directives. This is recommended reading.
The National Association of ISPs are trying to meet with the government department responsible for the IPRE and also the Irish Data Protection Commissioner. The Deputy Data Protection Commissioner who is very concerned about the directive. His concerns should be tabled for a European meeting of DP people in February. The German DP Commissioner has already raised related objections in public.
