MENTAL HEALTH IRELAND -- A national voluntary organisation promoting positive mental health has started searching for the journalists of tomorrow. MHI needs an editorial team for an online newspaper targeting teenagers and is offering Sony Mini Disc Recorders to prime the pump in a contest closing on June 25, 2004. The contest invites entries in the following categories:
- Photo Journalist
- Sports News
- Entertainment & Travel
- Health
- Cartoon Satirist
- Social, EU & International Youth News
- Environment & Education
The proposed online publication includes Ireland's first structured electronic forum for Irish teenagers. Aimed at 16-18 year olds, young journalists will produce all of the content and images to interpret their lives, in their words and on their terms.
This is not a chatroom, it is a conventional newspaper, but online. Teenage correspondents and columnists will inform and entertain their readers on movies, football games, disability, politics, education, the environment, physical and mental health, the economy, fashion and everything else that is important to their readers in their village, town or city today.
Entries need to be submitted by snail mail to Esras - 'Journalists of Tomorrow' Competition, 43 Mount Merrion Avenue, Blackrock, Co. Dublin, Ireland.
Mental Health Ireland offers guidelines and prizes.
