THE NEW YEAR arrives in Germany an hour ahead of Ireland, so I'm using the time to post forward three stipulations for 2005. These are things most people do anyway but having them front-and-centre adds more weight.
- Maintain a healthier diet.
- Exercise more regularly.
- Get control of personal correspondence to friends and students.
Now that they're out of the way, we can move forward to a few resolutions.
I resolve to give away more in 2005, starting with giving away knowledge through Moodle. I use the Moodle Virtual Learning Environment as part of my college teaching. I'm involved in six different courses and my resolution is to ensure all six are deeply indexed in the Creative Commons for the world to consume.
I resolve to give away more pictures in the form of prints to my mom who couldn't be bothered with the internet but who treasures receiving handwritten letters in the post. I've already sent her the first of 52 photo letters for 2005. It's my original artwork. We need to produce more art.
I resolve to carve out a minimum of 20 minutes each morning and each evening for pure analogue tasks like letter writing, book reading or note taking. I need that balance.
I resolve to review my Life Hacks once a week because they already contain elements of best practise revised and reinforced over the years.
