DISCLAIMER: I like POTB for a lot of reasons, including the fact that it has bumped up traffic to IrishEyes by an additional 200 people a day.
TIPPINST -- This week we're playing with newsfeeds from PlanetOfTheBlogs displaying on both the (€800) Nokia 9500 and the (€300) Cisco 7940 IP phone. Our Skunkworks crew reports success on two fronts.
The newsfeeds to POTB comes into my Nokia 9500 through the LiteFeeds Java client. I simply told LiteFeeds that I wanted a feed from http://www.planetoftheblogs.com/rdf/ then enabled the mobile version of the newsfeed and it started working an hour later. The POTB feed also arrives unbroken while using the mobile version of Bloglines, giving me an information flow of all Irishblogs.
The POTB feeds display on the large text screens of the Cisco 7940 phones too. This has commercial applications downstream. We will have some sophisticated by-products emerging before the end of the next academic term using Open Source options that parse and display just as well.
