AFTER 380 PEOPLE visited the page two days after I wrote about Sam the ugliest dog on this blog, I followed some of the backlinks and discovered that Google is playing with something like hitbox tracking metrics. If you Google for Sam the ugliest dog, you will discover a page from IrishEyes listed. If you check the element properties for the link, you'll spot this link:
This means that Google is able to track search engine queries as well as user clicks on the query string. I suspect within a few weeks the next Google Dance will show the most popular clicks near the top of the search results. I started at #8 and have slipped down to #12 already. Part of that comes as a result of my backlink to Doc Searls and Susie Lockheed, the dog's owner.
