SONY PACKAGES a slick sound (they call it voice) editor with its IC recorders. This software is not available for the Mac. I've backed up 5MB of version 2.31 on my Typepad storage space. That software can be used with the ICD-MX/MS/ST/SX/S/BP/BM series of IC recorders. This means it works with the ICD-SX20 digital dictaphone. For the P-series ICD recorder, version 2.43 of the software should work since it came with our P-series device. The Zip File is 38 MB.
I've discovered some interesting things with my ICD-MX20 after two weeks' use.
- ST mode produces the best results with Dragon NaturallySpeaking.
- Controls on the side of the MX-20 are extremely simple. You can concentrate on talking or dictating, not on how to operate the recorder.
- I have used the MX-20 with one hand. It's also small enough to be comfortable for petite hands.
- It is easier to use removeable memory cards than to stop and eject mini discs.
- Unlike the iPod, you don't have to worry about prying open the back to replace batteries. The MX20 uses two rechargeable AAA batteries. I get nearly two weeks use between recharging. I listen more than record.
- You can download the audio files from the MX20 to a computer for emailing.
- I can park my podcasts in a folder and listen to them as easily as listening on an iPod.
- You can record directly from streaming audio on your computer--or from Skype phone calls--to the MX20.
