MY DAY STARTS perfectly when I walk past this bollard and uphill into a lap pool in Cashel, County Tipperary. I remember jogging to an Olympic-sized swimming pool when I lived in South Carolina, swimming a mile and then jogging the three miles back home. That was part of a two-hour workout period and two stone now separate me from the body that used to do that workout twice a week in my 30s. I'll be happy enough losing the weight this year, even though it might mean swimming much less every morning.
