ALONG WITH a Bosch Classixx upright freezer comes a comprehensive handout explaining Geräusche (noises) that the A-rated (for energy consumption) makes. I imagine a consumer would consider the noises his or her new freezer made before extending the two-year guarantee into a five-year protection plan for £5.90 a month paid over 10 months. That payment would purchase a new standalone el-cheapo freezer from Electrocity so I am banking the money in the knowledge that mom bought a deep freeze that outlasted my stay in the family home.
About the noises: are you interested in "brrrrr," "blubb", "click", or "sssrrr"? Read on if you're curious.
- BRRRRR is a "buzzing sound (that) indicates the compressor is functioning." You can eliminate that sound by aligning the cabinet with the ground. Our garage floor needs surface realignment because we have "Brrrrr" coming from the freezer. It's a hands-and-knees job for Bernieman.
- BLUBB is "bubbling, gargle and humming noises caused by the refrigerating agent as it flows through the pipes." You can reduce the need for refrigeration by pulling the cabinet away from neighbouring appliances or furniture units. Or by keeping it in a near-freezing environment like our garage.
- CLICK is a sound heard when the thermo regulator switches the motor on and off. If you want to reduce the interval of clicking you must reduce the number of times the unit is opened.
- SSSRRR happens "in the case of refrigerators equipped with different temperature zones and the light rustling noise is caused by airflow inside the cabinet." If that bothers you, "separate bottles or containers" that are inside the unit.
As a kid, we would trap one of the younger brothers downstairs in the basement and tell him there was a frozen zombie in the deep freeze and if the brother wanted out of the basement before the zombie thawed, he better give us a cut of his Halloween candy or Easter sweets. Now kids all around the world are going to know that those deep freeze noises don't come from thawing zombies. Damn Bosch! Don't those German technical writers have better things to do than write instruction manuals that skewer hours of mischief by older brothers?
Ours is a Bosch Classixx upright freezer whose model number keeps changing around the €250 price point. Electrocity is the place where the RTE Television series "Showhouse" gets most of the appliances seen on screen.
