WE ARE NOT too keen about permitting a loud PC anywhere in our sitting room so I have started my research on the noise made by media centre computers. Most new PCs seem quiet when I listen to them in the shops but I can't help but think that if a PC feels warm it will sound loud. The spec sheets help a little--Pentium M processors, ITX or BTX motherboards all appear to suck less power which means they should be silent runners. I haven't abandoned the Mac Mini idea but getting one means changing the way I cut some videos and the Mac won't run most of my audio mixfits.
Some quiet business machines gleaned from Boards:
- D.Vine Quiet Media Center.
- Elonex Artisan LX.
- Hush Technologies for all-around quiet tech.
