ALTHOUGH ONLY A FEW of my Flickr images have geotags, it's fun labeling images and watch them appear on maps--and on Picasa web albums. A reader reminded me that I should point out the GeoTag Viewer displays on a map Flickr photos that have been GeoTagged if you make some batch edits to your geotagged images. To display your photo on this map you need to:
- Geotag a photo with tags for latitude and longitude like geo:lat=36.596436 and geo:lon=-118.167996. Then add the tag 'geotagged' so others can find it when they search for geotagged images.
- Add a link to http://geobloggers.tafoni.net/ in the photo's description or in a comment. (like this photo)
- Click the link and the GeoTag viewer will read the latitude and longitude tags from the referring photo and mark that spot on the map.
Thanks to Dawn Endico and to Martin Kleppe who explained that if I use Google Earth to geotag my photos via Picasa, the position information will also be assigned to the raw file.
