INTEL HAS ALREADY laid off "dozens of managers in Ireland and will this week announce details of more cuts after disappointing results," writes Gavin Daly on the front page of the Sunday Business Post. The staff took voluntary redundancy packages and received eight weeks' pay for each year of service.
If Intel trims its Irish staff by the same percentage as it has announced for its overall operations, another 400 people will leave the company through its Leixlip doors. That's probably not going to happen because most of Intel's cuts appear to be in marketing, not manufacturing. Intel employs more than 5000 people in Ireland.
