I AM BURIED in a concrete bunker next to the Pearse Station tracks in Trinity College Dublin and the only signal I can receive comes through Twitter's text messaging. I cannot get to my Twitter page but I can receive text from my Twitter friends. I've trimmed back my circle of friends because there's no joy in receiving 30 text messages every 10 minutes. Some Twitter instead of using instant messaging, engaged in a virtual message courtship. I think it's better form to twitter about generalised events even though I've used Twitter to respond to specific thoughts from others.
It's easy to dismiss Twitter as a superficial social network. After all, who really cares what's happening in your world this very minute? But when you start getting texts from people you hardly know about their routines, eureka moments, playlists and contentious URLs, you might discover a voyeuristic interest in the Twitter social network.
That said, Twitter is definitely not everyone's cup of tea. It lacks appeal for people who have never had two-fingered text.
