MOST PEOPLE are happy with a phone that works, email that's reliable and a to-do system that keeps them on track. I have issues with the last item because I have too many of the first two items. I carry three operating mobile phones with separate SIMs, have six other landline or VoIP phone numbers, more than 20 email identities and all that connectivity conspires to create backlogs I have to manage. I'm not doing very well with Getting Things Done at the moment and I know my slavish desire for new technology is eroding my productivity. Nonetheless, we continue exploring the edges of better social networking through smart devices.
1. We are wiring the car so we can tell the phone in the boot who to call. The system must also interface with the Garmin Nuvi 360 Bluetooth GPS unit used in the car.
2. We are entrusting Yahoo! Mail with the management of multiple e-mail personas and enforcing filters that will push important mail out to the mobile phone at no cost.
3. We are enforcing coffee chats with ourselves at the start of every day to ensure we have a plan of attack worth doing. Otherwise, we're going for a walk up the Rock.
4. We are minimising our twitterings, our moblogging, our podcasts and even our blogging so we can finish March with at least half of our monthly commitments neat and tidy. By September, we will have significantly higher priorities to juggle as part of the daily mix.
