WHILE I LIKE the look and build of the 250 GB Prestigio Net Drive, I don't like being unable to hook it up as a Net Drive right out of the box. Part of the problem is I have a ropey SOHO network, strung together to tweak a wireless signal to the neighbours. I was hoping that I would not have to put a proper router into the mix but it looks like if I expect the Net Drive to perform as a shared network asset with FTP capability, I will have to wire it to a separate piece of silicon. As it sits, it is not recognised as a network device so I'm forced to share it as a USB folder from the back of my laptop. That's not what I intended when I bought it for EUR 190 in a local shop. More below. Suggestions welcomed.
1. Wishing I had another computer to set up the Prestigio because I think my three-year old Dell laptop has a corrupted network driver. I'm confused because I can see a yellow warning triangle for the PCI modem and network adapter in the Device Manager but Microsoft cannot automatically find the correct driver.
2. Headed over to Dell Support to check out network adapter driver updates.
3. Downloaded and installed the biggest option: Dell TrueMobile 1300 MPCI card v.A10 and it solved a long-standing problem with my Conexant D480 MCD v.92 modem but did not restore my ethernet connectivity. I'm assuming I have an ethernet problem because I can't check a wired node on weekends.
