AFTER SERVING more than 5m pages across five different websites, I have learned that much of what I offer online spills over the side without being noticed because of how it's presented. Too much stuff looks cluttered so I am removing content clutter on this blog during the next two months and rebadging it as well. Newsfeeds will remain intact, only the on-screen appearances will change. I've several reasons for reducing the information here.
1. The three-column Javascript-heavy IrishEyes is nearly invisible to specialty services like Technorati because it's slow to ping services since it's so ungainly.
2. Some of the Javascript in this blog's left column triggers censorware in certain government agencies, effectively breaking the blog in browsers and preventing it from being viewed by some civil servants.
3. In a recent podcast, Mitch Joel pointed out the appeal of a luxuriating read. Cluttered reads do not deliver that experience.
4. In a recent post, Maryrose Lyons explained the design imperative related to removing "lots of the surplus clutter that doesn't get read".
Reconstruction begins in mid-May. Normal service will continue unimpeded by the new look.
