UPDATED TWO WEEKS LATER: I had to manually delete the file downloads.rdf from the Firefox Profiles folder on my computer before file-saving was restored to my system. The file was not visible under the default settings of Windows Explorer. On my computer, it sits in the C Drive, Documents and Settings, under my user name. I could not delete the file while logged in as myself, so I had to create another user and delete downloads.rdf while logged in as that user. I found downloads.rdf by drilling down into Documents and Settings > username > Application Data > Mozilla > Firefox > Profiles > note5cgp.default but on some discussion boards, the downloads.rdf file lives in another place.

WE ARE SPENDING a rainy Monday trying to restore file-saving capabilities to Firefox. At the moment, I can no longer right-click and save files viewed in Firefox. For sound files, I have to open a separate tab and right-click on the embedded (QuickTime) player to save out the clip. But I cannot pull down the File command and save pages. It's a little annoying and eating up some time but I have to figure out how to restore Firefox's file-saving capabilities or my work days will become much longer.
I've started Firefox in the safe mode and disabled all add-ons but that's no help.
I manually deleted TwitBin, the last add-on I rolled into my Firefox. Before TwitBin, things worked normally. I'm not blaming TwitBin because when the browser stops working, it's often something higher up in the system processes.
