SEVERAL INTROSPECTIVE moments over the past fortnight, including moments in the classroom at right, have given me reason to pause. First, I have reason to pause on Twitter since I recognise the timesink that community has become. Twitter has compromised my email channels and in my line of work, that's the same as refusing a coffee chat with colleagues. Like Richard Azia, I will throttle Twitter until I reach 5000 posts on this blog. Expect much less of me on Twitter.
Facebook has become the most useful channel for my extended family. Cousins, nephews, nieces, daughters, brothers, high school track buddies, greyed-out aircrew members and several people who absolutely do not want to connect with me because of scorched earth in the past--all these people check their Facebook pages regularly. I can cover more ground faster between contacts if I let Facebook work in my mobile life.
I need to reacquaint myself with an email standard of service. It's an essential business skill. I am losing valuable opportunities because I drank the Scoble Kool-Aid and dismissed the critical value of e-mail.
Bye! For now.
