IF I WAS A DAD who had a creative teenager in the house, I would look at Fighting Words, a creative writing centre for young people in Dublin. The professional writers, illustrators and creative writing enthusiasts who are contributing their time to this writing centre have a unique range of summer camps. Their four-day courses include graphic novel book writing for 14-17 year olds, photography with narrative writing for 9-11 year-olds and paywirting for 7-10 year olds. The film script writing module includes doing a short script and then recording it on a cameraphone. I've spotted some of the courses running from mid-July 2009. There are other options during the school year as well. Roddy Doyle established this collective of writers who have banded together to offer free (first-come, first-served) bookings. You can ask about availability via email to bookings AT fightingwords.ie.
