THE IRISH CHRISTMAS product launch for Sony Ericsson will happen before the company's planned Android 2.1 (Éclair) update for the Xperia X10 family occurs. That update has been delayed until the end of October, which probably means mid-November before it begins to filter through to O2-Ireland. Moving my handset up to Android 2.1 will help remove some of the lag that has crept onto the Xperia X10 through dozens of applications I've downloaded for free. Many of those apps would do better with the process management of the more advanced platform. Android 2.1 will also give me HD video recording with continuous auto-focus, an option for extended content back up, five homescreens, and a social phonebook which automatically syncs contact pictures from Facebook and shows when social network friends are online. But for my real friends, separated by hours of ocean flying, I've got to depend upon a clock application that shows side-by-side times.
