GOOSYNC GIVES ME powerful over-the-air synchronising of my Google contacts and Google Calendar items. It works on hundreds of devices, including my Nokia N8. I had to manually set up a few items on the phone but the Goosync illustrated instructions were spot-on and the set-up worked correctly the very first time.
While syncing more than 1000 contacts from my phone, I discovered Google won't let multiple contacts to share the same email address. If a contact already exists in Google, and a separate contact is sent by the device that uses the same email address, this contact will not be added into Google. This can result in the sync process failing to add several contacts into your Google account.
Moreoever, my N8 sent multiple contacts during the sync process with the same email address and Google only added the first contact that the phone provided, rejecting all other contacts that shared the same email address. Google also does not support fields for Birthday, Anniversary, URL, Prefix and Suffix.
I use Google to manage group email so it's a little disappointing that Google does not support contact categories during Goosync.
GooSync will also only synchronise one of each phone number type (Home, Work, Fax etc) between my N8 and Google. Only the first number of each type provided by Google or my N8 was synchronised.
Before the first sync, I had to manually input the following information on the N8:
Sync server URL: http://sync2.goosync.com/
Username: My GooSync username
Password: My GooSync password
Calendar database: calendar
Contacts database: contacts
Tasks database: tasks
I like Goosync and strongly recommend it to anyone who has more than 500 contacts in either their Google email account or on their phone.
