I HAVE A PILE of books like the one at left that contain scam stories. Today, I can add another cautionary tale for those who are used to opening Help Tickets. It's a tale that applies in double strength to people who trust programs like GoToMyPC to enhance their browsing experience. If you're one of those people, please consider checking who is on the other end of the line when tech support calls back from the Support Centre. "I got a call back from the Windows Support Centre in response to my spam reports and the guy offered to sort it out. He was very convincing. I gave the support technician access to my hard drive and downloaded the extra special virus scanware." If you've read this far, you know the poor guy now has to spend part of the day calling banks, resetting passwords across the internet from another computer. Then he has to get his computer cleaned. That's not a 20-minute patch job. Be careful out there--scam artists are very convincing.
