Bernie Goldbach in Cashel | See where the code takes you!
I KNEW QR CODES had become viable when I saw a woman at a Luas stop in Dublin snap one and chat with her friend about the special offer inside the code. QR Codes make getting URLs, location coordinates, any text or contact information onto a phone quickly.
With a barcode scanner app like Bee Tagg installed, you just point your phone's camera at the code to read its contents. With a few months of development time ahead of me, QR codes are front-and-centre in my life. I started a set on Flickr and that set's first port of call will be inside the Emerging Trends module I teach at Tipperary Institute. The QR collection will also form part of an e-learning summer school workshop, if Kevin O'Rourke wants to give away time for the topic. I'm working with Kevin and Gearoid O Suilleabhain on vetting the pedagogy behind a pathway of learning that pulls students through a transmedia experience towards Level 8 educational objectives. That may sound obtuse but trust me, it's worth the effort and it's a lot of fun for participants. But at the moment, I wonder how I'm supposed to get half of my potential students to procure smart phones so they can embark on this journey with the world's most sophisticated 2D bar code reader.
My set of notable QR codes.
Using Bee Tagg QR reader on my Nokia phones. Recommended.
