TODAY IS THE SHORTEST DAY of the year in Ireland, something I considered as I watched the sun on my morning commute (see the shot from my Nokia E7).
And while sunshine in my Golden Vale is at a premium this month, it's definitely more generous than in Fairbanks, Alaska. I spent part of a winter there in the 80s and got no more than four hours of sunshine every December day.
