PROOF THAT IRELAND has gifted temperate weather conditions to its huddled masses sits in our cold garage.
We have a Firebird boiler that now fires up fewer than six months every year. We have happily gone half a winter's month without burning through 40 litres of heating oil. On our current trend line, it is probable that we will extend our heating oil reserves by more than 50% this winter.
Part of the reason for this result can be attributed to favourable weather conditions. But most of the result comes directly from us keeping the central heating for the home turned off during these chilly fiscal seasons now part of Irish life in the post-bailout era.
