ALL FIVE of the Honeysuckle Lane Goldbach brothers are joined in a bedside vigil this Christmas season as my 88-year-old mother barely hangs onto life, I wonder what mom thinks of her sons now that we're well into our mid-lives.
I'm thinking about these issues because of several deeply personal conversations I've had on the social audio service Audioboom. In one exchange, I recalled the psychosocial theorist Erik Erikson and his theories of adult development. I often believe my personal development has lagged in that I seem to be evolving moe towards self-absorption rather than generativity. Going to see my brothers all under the same roof will bring certain clarity to the issue. I plan to record several audio converstions with several brothers, immortalising Christmas memories from the days when vinyl and eight track cassettes ruled the world.
