Kieran Bennett shares one of his Personal Bests--winning a Junior Munster Hurling Championship with his Club Ballysaggart.
Kieran Bennett after winning Munster Final.
In 2013/2014 my club won the Waterford county championship against Tramore. This was a big day for the club because it is such a small place with a population of just 200 people. We then went on to beat the Cork and Tipperary champions before we reached the Munster Final. We played the final against the Limerick champions Feenagh Kilmeedy. The game was played in Mallow Co. Cork and was a massive day for the whole community. The whole parish turned up to support us. It was a tough game but luckily we came out on top. There was a homecoming for the team outside the local pub and you could see how much happiness winning the Munster final brought to the local people. We then went on to win the All-Ireland semie final and reached the All-Ireland final against Creegan Kickams of Antrim. This game was played in Croke Park and was a great joy for the whole team to be involved in. The game finished in a draw after extra time and unfortunately we lost the replay the following week. A great year had come to a heart-breaking end. With the disappointment of losing on that day it took a couple of weeks to realise what we had achieved for such a small place.
I have also played on Waterford minor and u21 teams and Fitzgibbon Cup with LIT but nothing compares to winning with the people you grew up with.
