I REALISED I HAD MADE 100 reviews on TripAdvisor after I wrote about the best lunch I ever had in Ireland. It was at the Corner House Bistro in Athlone on a cold, rain-swept Saturday.
The Corner House Bistro deserves the laudatory comments its chef receives for soup and treacle bread. I enjoyed an exquisite bowl of butternut squash and coconut soup followed by an ingenious plate of scallops and prawns. I shared my review on several places. It's fair to say other reviewers were more critical of the Corner House Bistro but I stand over my belief that I enjoyed the best lunch I've had in Ireland since I arrived in country two decades ago.
