THE FUTURE IS IN databases of local information. Traffic to directories with user generated content (UGC) is growing at a faster rate than yellow pages directories. LeeAnn Prescott and Terry Heaton explain why.
Heaton cites a report from the American Press Institute that suggests "newspapers might assemble databases about parks, medical facilities and restaurants, information about schools, consumer-supplied ratings for restaurants, mechanics and contractors, as well as chat groups for parents and shoppers". I do not believe the operators of the local press throughout southeast Ireland understand this.
