SINCE IT'S THE GIVING season, I'm up for an idea that could enhance our academic programme along with bringing a smile to a face of a commuting student. In a post over on Media Virgins, Sean O'Grady recalls memorable gifts. He says, "This holiday season however, none has come to my mind, and it's not from the lack of trying. The product I covet the most this Christmas, is the Macbook, but I plan to buy one after Christmas, to (hopefully) beat the sales, and to wait for an increase in my Bank Account balance. My lecturer will suggest that I should attempt to get the college to pay for it, but we both know that is an absurd idea." I don't know about it being absurd because I think if Sean agrees to step up to video post-production in support of two Moodle-based third level courses, we might be able to arrange the long-term use of a Macbook for him. It's worth running the question up the flagpole. The proposition: sign over a Macbook to Sean in exchange for this weekly tasking: produce a minimum of three video shorts or educational screencasts to support the development of Tippinst.tv. We have a development budget and also money earmarked from the Department of Education that is targeted to improving access to education. Stay tuned for details as they unfold.
