A COMBINATION OF FACTORS prevented me from releasing my Sunday News from Ireland before noon today and I explain some of those reasons in the first two minutes of my YouTube clip (above). For what it's worth, I normally shoot the news clips by using my Nokia N8 and Qik. Today's Qik clip suffered a major failure because of an overloaded operating system and an overburdened wifi node. I also make a short audio clip and shovel that up to Audioboo because a dozen loyal listeners just want the podcast version of the news.
I wonder how Ireland will break out of its current situation because every week the country gets hit with a blind side tackle that sucks billions more euro out of its economy. In the past six months, Ireland has committed to spending more money to bail out its banks than NASA is going to use to reach Mars. In fact, the Marshall Plan to rebuild Europe at the end of WWII cost less than Ireland's onerous public debt. The most unpopular government in Irish history is clinging onto power, making decisions that will place unborn Irish grandchildren into debt. Our personal household income has been cut more than EUR 10,000 in the past year while politicians have given themselves a pay rise. I don't understand how all this can be happening in a vibrant democracy. History will rip the legacy of Brian Cowen to shreds and he's fast approaching a heave from office before an official portrait can be painted of him in Leinster House. Somehow that seems fitting.
