FACEBOOK'S PAGE INSIGHTS now measure outside your second degree of separation. Data from Insights now show reach and amplification.
This capability first started appearing in my Google Analytics when I saw long URLs originating from Facebook, Google and Twitter. Some people were complaining about those long URLs when they were searching for things on Google. The extended URLs provide a means of tracking when and where a link extends.
With the extended URLs, you can see when a long-dormant link starts attracting visitors. This might happen when someone stumbles upon an old post or when they click on a link sent via email. You can see whether a view of your stuff came from something on your own page or when it originated via something an influencer did.
We plan to weave these measurements of vitality into the next semester's revision of the LIT Web Analytics module.
