BACK IN 2003, I was looking west on LinkedIn because I knew just three others from Ireland with LinkedIn profiles. A lot has changed in terms of Irish usage during the nine ensuring years.
The biggest change might be in terms of the LinkedIn app on the iPad. It's very well designed and feels a lot like Flipboard to me. I also like the way LinkedIn contacts, emails and activity tightly integrated to the Windows Phone People Hub. It's very slick.
But rewind to 2003. For the record, here's a listing of people I knew on the system back then, mainly because LinkedIn tossed their names in front of me as possible contacts in the Republic:
Antoin O Lachtnain (LinkedIn member #1461). Still doing "exciting stuff in boring industries".
John Keyes (LinkedIn member #3576). At Norkom when I was a bus stop away. Still a code monkey.
Tom Murphy (LinkedIn member #4364). Knew him at Cape Clear. Today he's Director of PR for Corporate Citizenship at Microsoft.
Paddy Holahan (LinkedIn member #12105). Newbay was the bee's knees for mobile telecoms development. Paddy is an investor at Asavie Ltd today.
Dervala Hanley (LinkedIn Member #14473). Always a diarist, now VP Corporate Initiatives at Starbucks.
Justin Mason (LinkedIn Member #20454). I used his SpamAssassin. He's developing software for Amazon now.
Bill Laio (LinkedIn Member #29338). Connected through another business networking site. Then he moved to Ireland where he launched Coder Dojo and more.
Bernard Goldbach (LinkedIn Member #35874). Still trapped in third level, now the Sr Creative Multimedia Lecturer at the Limerick Institute of Technology.
Keith Bohanna (LinkedIn Member #39770). Used to be happy talking about HTML. Now he eats more than he codes.
Ina O Murchu (LinkedIn Member #52966). Spotted her lurking at barcamps. Now she commands a video camera's frame.
Brian Caulfield (LinkedIn Member #96804). Still inside venture capital funds.
Lots of interesting cross-links to LinkedIn on Pinboard.
