Bernie Goldbach in Clonmel | Photo snapped over Mia's shoulder
OUR FIVE YEAR OLD daughter uses her digital tools to good effect. She carries some hand-me-down tools in her pencil case and has started dabbling as a documentary iTouchagrapher.
Mia occasionally snaps shots of her production process and also of her artwork. We've started a Flickr set of her snaps and her creative visual work so her 16 year old self can look back and wonder.
Equally interesting would be the reaction of other parents and primary school teachers. Mia thinks nothing unusual about documenting her space on school and one day she snapped the names of everyone in her junior infants classroom. All I remember of mine was sitting at the same table for three months with three other five year olds. One of those boys started a fight with me about crayons. Imagine the perpetual guilt I could've laid on him had I the basic photography skills that Mia uses week on week. But you'd expect those skills on a truly digital native.
